They’re cute, curly, and cuddly, and you could be going home with one today! Poodle puppies make great pets, and you’ll need to know just what they need in order to be most comfortable in your home, so here are some for being a great poodle owner.

No matter which poodle breed you decide to purchase, you should know that some poodles tend to be a little reclusive or anti-social, and aren’t very friendly around strangers - unless they are trained. You will need to socialize your poodle puppies by placing them in an environment where people will be present often, so that it won’t be so overwhelming for the dogs when you have people over or take the puppies on an outing.

One of the things you need to do is to ensure that your poodle puppies are taken to vet often for their checkups, this is because poodles generally have vision problems quite often, Their eyes need to look alert and should be shiny. If you start noticing film around the eyes, or even if your poodle puppy’s are often running, it is a possibility of the onset of a cataract. being able to treat this condition in it’s early stages is an important factor, and you should take them immediately to your vet should you notice that your poodles vision seem cloudy. Poodle puppies tend to also be prone to ear infections, so you have to ensure that your puppy’s ears are check out by your vet also. Having a hearing test for your poodle puppy should also be done and don’t forget that the proper medication is given to them as directed by your vet.

Poodle’s tend to have sensitive skin and you may notice this often, so you have to make sure that some grooming products would not be used for grooming your poodle. It is common to see poodle owners dye their dog’s hair in different colors, or shampoo the fur with expensive shampoos. Be aware however, that the chemicals in some these products could be harmful to your poodle puppies, and this could cause skin irritations and rashes. Further your poodle might develop allergies with such products, so should notice that your poodle is sluggish, or is perhaps often sneezing, then you should leave the grooming to professionals or have them do it in your home.

With the growing demand for more surgery and the increased use of transfusion therapy to treat different kinds of diseases, there is indeed a great need for blood bank programs to supply life-saving blood components whenever and wherever they are needed. Before there were animal blood banks, Veterinarians had to use their own dogs, dogs owned by their staff, or even dogs borrowed from their clients as blood donors.

Animal blood banks depend solely on animal blood donors. Animal blood is specific to certain specie, dogs can receive dog blood only, and similarly, cats can only receive cat blood. Moreover, dogs have blood types just like humans. Among the eleven different blood groups of dogs, the most important one is the A1/A2 system. Canines with A negative blood types are considered universal donors.

Although dogs rarely have isoantibodies against other blood types, it is still recommended that all recipients be cross matched prior to receiving a blood transfusion, especially dogs which have received a previous blood transfusion to make sure that your donor and recipient are compatible.

The major and minor cross matching is the two types of cross-matching tests. If major cross matching is done, red cells from the donor are mixed with serum from the recipient, then it is observed to see if there is a reaction. The recipient cells may attack donor cells and reject them. In the event that there is a major cross-match incompatibility, transfusion shouldn’t be done. For a minor cross-match test, the red cells of the recipient are compared with the serum of the donor. If there is a minor cross-match incompatibility, only parts of the donor’s blood can be given to the recipient.

Qualities for canine donors are: healthy, no history of metabolic or heart disease or seizures, lean body weight of greater than 50 kg, and 1-7 years of age. They should not be on any medication, except heartworm and parasite preventatives. Potential donors should have a good temperament, have been neutered and nulliparous, and have jugular veins that are easily visualized and palpated. They should also be current on vaccines. Greyhounds have been promoted as ideal blood donors because of their amenable disposition and high PCV.

After the canine’s blood type is determined and is acceptable, donors are tested to make sure their blood values are high enough and no infectious disease is present before blood is drawn as with human blood donors. CBC, biochemical profile, U/A, fecal exam, von Willebrand’s factor, is done as well as testing for Dirofilaria immiti, Ehrlichia canis, Babesia canis, B. gibsoni, Brucella canis (in intact or previously bred dogs), and Bartonella.

There is no preparation before going to the donation center and no fasting is required. Donor dogs are not sedated and the donation itself takes less than half an hour. The dog is welcomed in and lifted onto a table. Blood is taken from the jugular vein, which is a large vein in the neck. A small patch of hair on the neck is shaved to expose the skin right over the vein. The area is then swabbed with alcohol and a needle is inserted into the vein. Blood goes into the needle, through a tube, and then into the collection bag. After the blood is collected, pressure is applied to stop any bleeding and the donor is then lifted off the table. There might be a mild bruising at the site.

Water and food are offered to replace nutrients. The dog’s system starts to replace the blood immediately after the donation. Blood volume will then be back to normal in a day and the red blood cell count in 2 to 3 weeks. Strenuous activity should be discouraged for the next 24 hours after donating, just as it is with human blood donors. Also similar to human donors, there must be a waiting period of at least two months before blood can be collected again.

As soon as they have made their donation, animal donors are compensated with various gifts and treats. They may be rewarded with a tag that identifies him or her as a blood donor, edible rewards that may include dog biscuits, a jar of baby food, a can or a bag of dog food, brand new toys and cool donor bandanas.

Blood banks collect blood from a donor and then separate the blood into components - either red blood cells, platelets or plasma. Red cells are given to a recipient that may be anemic due to trauma or due to a treatable disease. Plasma is used to build up blood volume when the animal is not making enough or is losing too much protein. Platelet-rich plasma is for those recipients whose platelets are depleted or dysfunctional.

Today, there are several animal blood banks in the world. They supply blood products to the different Veterinary hospitals. It is good that many pet owners responded with enthusiastically to the growing need for blood donations. The blood donated by the animals is brought in to the bank at the Veterinary hospital and to the bank’s bloodmobile, which visits Veterinary clinics and kennel clubs.

Some animal blood banks depend solely on the generosity of pet owners who enroll their dogs in canine blood donor programs and take them to their scheduled appointments. Animal blood banks hold drives to encourage animal blood donations, just like what the Red Cross and other health organizations do.

If you think your dog could be a blood donor, you can check the location of regional blood banks or the list of Veterinary Hospitals and University Veterinary Medical Centers that manage their own blood donor/blood bank programs. Or you can contact the animal blood banks for dogs and cats nearest you, or ask your Veterinarian if there’s an animal blood donor program with a donation site in your area.

Keeping a pet is very much in vogue all over the world. Pets are domesticated for companionship or amusement, so, it becomes the duty of the owners to take proper care of their pets and keep them in good health. They must be groomed, fed, and bedded properly. Treating your pet with the right pet medications is also an important part of your pet health care plan to keep him or her happy and healthy.

Pets are pets after all, they easily fall prey to numerous pet diseases and ailments because of the health hazards of modern living. The pet meds play cardinal role in pet grooming and keeping the pets in good health. Medical issues of pets can include tapeworms, hookworms, liver or kidney disease, ulcers, hernia, parasites, cancer, diabetes and poisoning.

There is a plethora of pet medication for the different pet diseases, including dewormers, ear and eye products, vitamins and supplements, arthritis and joint care, shampoos, sprays and heartworm preventives. And lets not forget a long list of pet Rx and other non-pet Rx medications.

Pet medication can be found in a variety of places, including a local department store’s pet food section or a specialty pet store, pet pharmacy, veterinarian’s office or online pet medication websites. However, medications for pets can be expensive to owners especially those with low income. Get your pet an affordable pet insurance plan if you really want to save on your pet’s medications.

With an affordable pet insurance policy, all unexpected expenses of your pet can be easily covered. When choosing the right animal health insurance policy for you and your pet, bear in mind that while the concept is the same for all the insurers, each has its own terms, conditions and criteria. There is various pet dog insurance and cat insurance policies provided by the various companies in relation to the health of your pet, or in case of the theft, or the death of the pet, your pet is also replaced with a new one.

Generally, pet health insurance such as dog health insurance and cat health insurance covers all of your pet’s expenses that can arise due to any ailment that is suffered by your pet. Some pet care insurance cover costs relating to illness, accidents and injuries, while others cover medical check-ups, immunizations and other procedures. Insurance for pets is available for cats and dogs only but sometimes some special coverage is available for horses too.

A pet requires medication at times of illness so it can get rid of just about any health complication. But before acquiring pet medications, one must always consult an animal doctor first as not all pet medicine is suitable for all pets. The pet medication you purchase should match the doctor’s prescription and dosages must be followed correctly. Pet medications given incorrectly can be harmful and even deadly to your pet.

Pets are also important members of society so they should always be kept in good health. Being a responsible pet owner comes with its share of financial responsibilities and by ensuring that your pet receives adequate veterinary treatment, there’s no reason why you and your pet shouldn’t spend many happy years together.

Although Dog Insurance is something that has been on the market for about two decades, there are still many pet owners who are not aware that pet health insurance is available and are even surprised to learn it is an option. However, because the pets are very often considered a part of the family, learning about the availability of pet health insurance is usually very good news to dog owners.

Anyone can relate to this sentiment of relief, if they have ever been faced with having to either clean out their savings account or run up their credit card balance in order to take care of an unexpected emergency. Having a pet plan can help to lighten the burden of the expenses related to a surgical procedure, long-term care for serious conditions, such as cancer and other types of diseases or emergency care due to injury or accident. Without insurance, some dog owners are faced with the awful decision of having to put their pet to sleep because the cost of proper health care is just too much for the family budget.

It is often a heartbreaking situation when a pet owner is faced with a choice of either paying for expensive, but needed, veterinary pet procedures or being able to properly care for the needs of the rest of the family in the household. This dilemma often results in the agonizing decision of having to put the pet down. This is just the kind of situation that illustrates the immense value, in emotional terms, of having dog insurance to assure the well-being and the health needs of the family dogs.

Just as with other health care expenses, the costs associated with veterinarian care for pets is also rising with each passing year. This fact has made the idea of acquiring pet insurance to cover the animal welfare and health concerns a more attractive option. It has also made pet health insurance a more financially smart move for families. It is much easier to work a small insurance premium for dog health insurance into the household budget than it is to try to come up with hundreds, or even thousands of dollars if an emergency arises.

If you own more than one dog, then insurance coverage for all of them makes even more sense. Just making sure that each dog has received the vaccinations, health screenings and booster shots on an annual basis can stretch a budget to the breaking point. This situation can lead pet owners to decide to skip the routine health care steps that should be taken to prevent illness and diseases.

If you are a dog owner, you have probably wondered about this. Are luxury dog beds worth it? Do not obsess over this question when shopping. You will find in your search for the best dog bed that the term luxury dog bed is utilized differently. One retailer may refer to their $50 dog pet beds luxurious and another may consider $1,000 to be at the low end of luxury. Therefore, some better questions to ask yourself before purchasing a dog bed is, “What is the definition of luxury?” or “What would be luxury to my dog?”

Defining luxury can be harder than you think because we are programmed through advertisements to envision luxury as top of the line or designer labels. Remember that cost does not define luxury when it comes to dog beds. Each manufacturer gets their raw materials to create the beds from different suppliers who charge a vast array of prices. Various factors have an impact on pricing including how much volume a retailer orders. Instead of trying to over analyze whether or not you are choosing the best dog bed, follow your own instincts. Some dogs, prefer big fluffy ball beds others like firmer beds while still others like a sofa bed with bolsters to cuddle against.

Only you know your dog’s likes and dislikes. If your dog tends to lean against something to cuddle, then he may like a sofa dog bed or a bolster dog bed (a bed with raised sides). A dog that is used to resting on a hard floor may not be comfortable in a big fluffy bed that many dog owners would call luxurious. It is almost impossible to listen to another dog owner on dog beds because every pet and every owner has different needs and style.

There is absolutely no reason to try and keep up with the neighbors when selecting such an important item for your dog. A luxury dog beds can only be determined by your standards for your dog. The one thing that is crucial when selecting your companion’s sleeping spot is the bed dimensions. Make sure that your dog will fit on the bed you select. Dog Beds are are available in all styles, sizes and colors. You should have an easy time finding a quality selection of luxury dog beds for your pooch to rest comfortably in luxury.

Everyone knows we should eat healthy and in moderation along with getting plenty of exercise. The idea doesn’t change for our pets and dog food. If your dog lives healthy by avoiding dog eating health problem, you won’t have to see the vet as often! If your dog is confined to a yard or other area, give it lots of space and things to play with or explore, to encourage exercise. Dog biscuits and table scraps should be saved for very special occasions. Don’t believe everything you hear from the so called experts concerning commercial dog food and supplements.

Organic dog food is the best option if you need to rely on commercial preparations. Commercial dog foods usually contain high levels of sodium, preservatives, artificial colors and other additives that are toxic to your pet. Organic dog food products provide a guarantee that the product is natural and does not contain these toxic additions. Furthermore, the ingredients may be free of pesticides but you would need to check to make sure. The superior nutritional value of organic dog food will also help your companion maintain his weight. A chubby dog may be adorable, but extra weight can lead to diabetes, organ failure, a back ailment or hip dysplasia. Heavy dogs also tend to be less active than normal weight dogs, leading to even more health problems. Dogs who eat organic dog food tend to eat less than dogs on a non-organic diet because they are able to acquire more essential nutrients in each serving. Organic foods don’t use fillers, so dogs only eat what they need to maintain their health and energy.

Good reasons to use organic dog food:*Non Toxic. Good organic dog food products are free of harmful chemicals that can lower your dog’s immunity and compromise his health. Liver and kidney failure can result if your pet’s system is exposed to too many toxic chemicals, particularly when they also are not obtaining adequate nutrition. Just by avoiding harmful additives and exposure to poisonous chemicals, you’re dog will be much better off. By also feeding him a highly nutritious, natural product, you are making it possible for him to live a long and healthy life. *Your Dog Will Be Happier. At the end of the day, don’t we all want our pets to have happy lives? If your dog eats a healthy diet, he will have more energy and naturally be more active. This is the cycle leading to good health. If your dog is suffering from any degenerative illness that is diet related, it is possible to reverse it with a healthy, balanced diet and exercise.

Even if your dog doesn’t suffer from skin problems, allergies, obesity or digestive ailments, an organic diet can still improve his overall health. Almost all dog foods claim to be nutritionally complete, but organic dog food provides better quality sources of nutritional substances. This is true even when compared to the non-organic “premium” brands. In short, natural foods that an animal would find in the wild are easier for them to digest.

Dogs are adorable and intelligent creatures. They have got tremendous capacity for love, and their love is of the unselfish category. They love their masters a lot and form a sort of family member. No body can compare with the dog in its loyalty. The dogs are even ready to lay their own lives for their masters. The dog always puts its master before itself. When it is giving so much of itself to us, then it is our duty to look after this adorable animal and give it a proper Dog Grooming.

A person can give his pet a good dog grooming by taking it to a qualified professional. The professionals take care of your pet’s skin, hair, ear, teeth, eyes, nails, etc. While these dog grooming tips are great, you may not be having as much time or money to spend on the professional cares. Hence, it would be good if you learn some dog grooming tips.

One of the foremost Dog Grooming Tips should be the hygiene factor. You should regularly clean your dog’s body by giving it a regular wash of shampoo and conditioners. This basic dog grooming makes your dog’s skin healthy by removing all flee, dander, dirt, dead cells, dermatitis and other parasites feasting on your pet’s body. After the dog has been given a wash, its eyes and ears should be given separate attention. While the former should be cleaned with a sterile eye cleaner, you could clean the latter with the help of dog ear cleaners. This dog grooming should be done at least once a week.

Dental care is another of the dog grooming tips. Daily clean your dog’s teeth with the help of a special dog toothbrush and formulated dog toothpaste. This would help in removing the plaque from your pet’s dentures and giving it a clean, polished look.

Nails are an important part of the dog grooming tips. Dirty or elongated nails seem to trap some germs or infections in them. So always make sure that your pet’s nail are properly trimmed and cleaned with the help of good dog clippers. But, you should cut your pet’s nail slowly and carefully so as not to cut it’s skin. The dog’s nails should be cut from the point from where it starts curling. So give your pet a good nail trimming and take care of its nails.

Your dog may initially resist this dog grooming sessions, but with continuous practice it could start seeing it as a regular practice and would finally accept them. Your dog may even start looking on these grooming sessions as a part of a pampering exercise and look forward to them. So be patient initially and it will be a great pay off.

The dog grooming tips are a good way to connect with your dog and are also a way of monitoring its body. As the dogs are quite active creatures, many times they could suffer a cut or damage to their skin which could go unnoticed. But, with the regular sessions of dog grooming, you will be able to notice all of these cuts and damages in a shorter interval of time and save your pet from getting its wounds infected. So give your dog a regular grooming with the right Dog Grooming Tools and watch it grow into a strong, healthy dog. This article is part of the E Dog Grooming site. When many people think of Dog Training, they may envision showing off their best friend’s playing-dead technique during summer cookouts. If this isn’t something that appeals to them, they may disregard dog training as a frivolous activity custom made for people with too much time on their hands. There are, however, several ways of training your dog and several reasons to do so. Three very important benefits of training your dog are socialization, safety, and bonding.

Socializing your dog is simply the act of making him a pleasure to be around for people and other dogs alike. Who wants to be around a dog - especially a large one - who jumps on everyone with whom he comes in contact? If you have a dog that jumps, you may feel forced to resign him to the backyard when company visits, which may in turn make an annoying barker out of him as he feels left out of social gatherings. But if you treat the problem by training him not to jump, you will enable him to enjoy the company of others when they come for a visit. You will be able to do things with him like go to the park and walk in areas where there are other people and dogs.

A trained dog is a safer dog. One of a pet owner’s biggest fears is that their beloved animal will one day get away from during a walk and be hit by a car. Some very basic training can give you a safety net in just such a situation. For instance, imagine that your dog runs out the front door one morning and you lose track of him. When you find him, he is on the other side of a busy street, and his first impulse may be to bound happily toward you at first sight. But if he is well-trained, you can signal for him to sit and wait for you to come and leash him. Disaster averted.

Aside from those two very practical reasons to train your dog, however, there is a third benefit that busy people sometimes overlook. Time spent training your dog is time the two of you will spend together. If you’ve ever built a model with your kid or fixed a computer or baked a cake with a friend, you know that accomplishing a goal with a loved one can be a valuable bonding experience. Dogs are not immune to this. If you spend just a few minutes each day training your dog, it will give both of you a sense of accomplishment and bring you closer together.

Certainly, a few nifty party tricks aren’t out of the question. Go ahead - see how far you can take the training once you have the basics covered. Let your dog show you and everyone else exactly how smart he is. Remember to use plenty of praise and reward, as well as having lots of patience.

A dog can be plagued with any type of infection on any area of the body, but usually yeast infection affects a dog’s ears more than any other part of the body. I guess it is because of how the ear is positioned; it is close to the head and if not properly cleaned can develop an infection.

Dogs that have floppy ears don’t get enough circulation and dogs that do not get enough sunlight are susceptible to dog ear yeast infection. Yeast is developed in areas that are moist and dark. If a dog has had a bath, the area behind the ears needs to be dried properly. Putting the dog out in the sunlight will help to dry the area.

Look for any excessive scratching behind the ear and notice any type of redness, swelling or discharge as well as any unusual odor coming from the animal. These are some of the signs of dog ear yeast infection.

Taking your dog to the vet is the best possible reaction to these symptoms. However, some dog owners have found natural methods that work even faster than anything that the vet may prescribe for the animal. So in cases where the problem still persists, you can opt for natural cure of a dog’s ear yeast infection.

Canine yeast infection

Here are some options you might want to consider to cure dog ear yeast infection:

1. Change your dog’s diet to foods that will help to build up the immune systems. Dogs are pretty much like humans who get sicker when the immune system is low. Do not give your dog only the scraps from your leftovers to eat. There are different types of dog foods that target the immune system. Go to your local pet store to see what you can find. You can also give your dog Vitamin C and anything that will improve the health of your dog.
2. As discussed before, make sure that your dog’s ear is clean and dry because yeast grows more when it is in a moist area. If you have a dog that has ears that stand up, it is easier to maintain because nature (sunlight) will dry it for you. However, if the dog has droopy ears, then more care needs to be taken to keep it clean and dry. Try to see if your dog will let you put a headband that pulls the ear forward so it can have a chance to dry properly. Do this when the dog is lying down. Trim any excessive hair growth behind the ears. Use diluted vinegar to wipe behind the ears.
3. Stay away from giving your dog too much antibiotics. Antibiotics are a friend to yeast infection at Canine yeast infection in both humans and animals. The body has a natural flora balance and the antibiotics disrupt the flow to cause yeast to grow.
4. Use anti-microbial herbs, if possible, which you can get at your local health food store. Pau d’arco is a great natural anti-microbial that you can try. Check with your vet first.
5. Chorhexidine is a good substitute for prescription treatment as well as the ointment known as Cotramizole.

Your dog is depending on you to take care of its dog ear yeast infection. If you follow the tips above, it will help to cure dog ear yeast infection, but make sure you do your own research and get medical help when needed.
