Before we go any further a dog collar is a piece of material that is put around the dog’s neck. There are many fancy dog collars, designer dog collars and unique dog collars available in the market. And most of the time these collars are used for fashion, identification and controlling and other purposes. Normally, identification tags and medical information is placed on dog collars. It comes in a wide variety of styles, materials and colors.

Dog collars are appropriate for controlling a dog manually because they provide a handle for grabbing. This can be used in conjunction with a dog leash because it is easier to direct and teach your dog.

There are so many types of dog collars available. Each one has a different use on it:

Dog Training Collars - are meant to be used during dog training. The benefit of this is that while training, if there is a tug on the leash, it will follow with an immediate release of tension on the leash. Training collars are normally worn during training only and it must be taken off after that because it may be dangerous and harmful for the dog if left unsupervised.

Buckle Collars - These dog collars are also known as flat collars and are made of nylon webbing or leather and it includes a buckle which is the same to a belt buckle or a quick release buckle. The collar will hold loosely around the dog’s neck making it less uncomfortable. These unique designer dog collars are widely worn on most dogs because they come with a wide range of designs. These days, dog collars has become a fashion statement.

Flea collars - They are used for dogs who are having problem with fleas. These collars comes with chemicals to repel fleas. Normally these collars are usually a supplementary collar, worn in addition to the conventional buckle collar.

Designer dog collars are usually more expensive. This is because they are designed by well-known pet designer. Sometimes these collars are customised to the dog owners preference. They can choose from the material, colors and designs. To add ‘bling’ to their dogs, they can even opt for colored stones embed to the fabric of the collars. Some collars even have a matching leash to go with the collars.

It is vital to fit perfectly on the dog’s neck. Collars should be loose enough to slip at least 2 fingers in between the collar and the neck of your dog. Incorrect fitting of these collars will end up with pain and discomfort for you pet.

New Puppy – Questions You Should Ask When Buying An Older Puppy

Most of the time people purchase new puppies and bring them home around the age of six to eight weeks. This is the perfect time period in which they are best to be weaned from their mother and conditioned to live with you and the rest of the family. It makes bonding much easier because you have immediately replaced the puppy’s mother with yourself.

Making the decision to bring home an older puppy requires vast amounts of information about the puppy and the only way to get this information and determine if you are willing to take home the puppy is to ask questions about it.

We know that you want to check out some http://www.yourdogsuppliesstore.com/1/Dog_Pajamas.html view now!

Considerations when it comes to older puppies.

One of the biggest benefits of getting an older puppy right off the bat is that their behavior is a lot more calm than a younger pup and the dog has usually been socialized to a small degree when it comes to the day-to-day chaos of living in a house with other people. Their first home has already conditioned them for you.

Watch out for older puppies that may have been neglected. It is important not to be too naive when you are discussing the option of buying an older puppy from someone. Not everybody sells their dogs for positive reasons. Some owners are trying to get rid of them simply because they couldn’t take care of the puppy’s needs and due to this reason they probably neglected the dog for a long period of time.

Sometimes these awful living conditions can lead to certain types of stresses in the puppy as well as anxiety and for that reason you need to make sure that you are prepared for the extra care you may have to offer it. Furthermore, when getting an older puppy, since your family will always have more questions about the puppy than you could think of at the time of the meeting, you should bring them with you so that a clear and concise decision can be made as to whether or not the puppy is a good choice for you and your family.

And of course, you’ll want to ask the owner a few basic questions before making a buying decision. Ask if the dog has had any type of training. Find out firsthand if the puppy displays any behavioral bad habits such as aggression, chewing, or excessive barking. Also, make sure that this is the first and only home the dog has been in. If he has lived elsewhere before the current owner then find out why he was sold. These are just a few of the basic questions you should know to ask. Add more questions to your list for better due diligence.

During the winter season, it is important to keep your dog warm. If you have a small dog like Maltese or Yorkshire Terrier you may want to consider buying some dog clothes to keep at home, for instance like a dog jacket or sweater to help keep them warm.

Many dog owners, do not know how to keep their dogs warm during winter. Luckily for them, there are plenty of ways to do this. While you choose for an appropriate outerwear for your dog, choose dog clothes that is easy for you to put on and not a struggle for your dog when wearing it. Many dogs are not used to wearing coat or dog clothes so you may need to train them.

Here’s how: Simply put the coat on for a few hours each day and while having the coat on their body, give them some healthy dog treats. Your dog will slowly get used to wearing the coat because they are trained to know that during the period when the coat is on, you will always have all natural dog treats for them.

When shopping for dog clothes, many only chooses outfit that is cute, or nice looking for their dogs. But many do not know that material is important when choosing an attire for their dogs. Choose a coat that is made out of durable materials that are easy to care for. Or during winter time, look for water resistant materials so that your dog clothes will not get damp and make your dog sick. Another tip is to consider getting dog boots for dogs who are old or walk a lot because this will help them avoid stepping on ice, snow and salt which will sometimes injure their paws.

Before setting off and buy your dog clothes, get down your dog’s body measurement. This is to ensure that the dog clothes will have a proper fit on your dog and avoid all the hassles or returning it if it doesn’t fit. Also, some dog clothes requires you to only hand wash, or dry wash. Remember to check out ways on washing the clothes.

There are many other ways to keep your dog warm during winter. For instance, think about putting a warm blanket in their unique dog bed. You just have to think creatively or if you are still unsure how to, go to a local pet store and ask for advise.

Any breed of dog comes with their share of breeding and behavioral problems. The Chihuahua is no different and Chihuahua problems can range from a fragile build to a fragile constitution. Before you go ahead and bring that Chihuahua home you may want to check out some of the issues you will have to deal with when it comes to training and owning a Chihuahua.

A Chihuahua is not going to make a great gift for your kids. Chihuahuas do not react well to the noise and clatter caused by children along with all of the rapid moving around that kids will do. This sort of activity will cause your Chihuahua to feel a lot of stress and tension and can bring about a biting response that also does not go well with kids. Chihuahuas are also fragile and cannot take the abuse a child may give it intentionally or unintentionally.
Everyone loves the little Chihuahua and finding a Chihuahua to take home is usually pretty easy. But you should be very careful with breeders that try and sell you Chihuahuas weighing less than four pounds for an extremely high price. This is a common Chihuahua problem where the shady dealer will try and sell what seems like a trendy little dog to an unsuspecting owner. Smaller Chihuahuas that weigh less than four pounds are not healthy and have very fragile bones. You should not be taken in by their small size.

Everyone thinks it is cute when the little Chihuahua barks or snips at someone that tries to take something that the Chihuahua thinks it owns. Everyone thinks it is cute except the Chihuahua, to them it is serious business. If this sort of behavior is not taken care of immediately it can lead to uncontrolled barking and potentially escalating to the point of your dog biting at everyone it sees.
Probably one of the biggest Chihuahua problems known to many a Chihuahua owner is the problem of housebreaking a Chihuahua. Chihuahuas hate the elements and they will avoid going outside any way they can even if it means relieving themselves in the house. Some people try to install a doggie door so the dog can let itself in and out but in the end some owners are forced to accept a dog that uses a litter box. That is just the way it is when you live with a Chihuahua.

Chihuahuas come in all different types of personalities. Some will listen to commands while others may never hear a word you say. What kind of Chihuahua you have really depends on how they grow up over time. You are going to have to spend a lot of time with your Chihuahua, not only trying to get it to understand what you want it to do but also just learning what kind of personality your dog has so you know what training approaches to try.

If you want to know what to expect with your Chihuahua training then read this article. You can use this article, along with dog training books when preparing to train your Chihuahua.

You are considering adopting a Beagle, but wonder what are the pros and cons of the breed. Information from breeders and the American Kennel Club (AKC) tend to gloss over any potential problems with your new dog, while highlighting the breed’s strong points. You need to know what the most common Beagle behavior problems are before you bring one home.

Compared to some breeds, the worst Beagle behavior problems are more annoying than anything else. Some, like wandering, can be easily prevented through regular exercise, supervision when outside and neutering. Beagles, as well as other dogs, have only recently moved indoors with people. It’s only natural that there are still some Beagle training pains to go through. A lot of Beagles are given up to shelters; sadly, because their owners would not take the time to learn about Beagle nutrition, exercise requirements or personality.
The most common Beagle behavior problems, according to Beagle rescue websites, are those of shedding, wandering and separation anxiety. Shedding doesn’t even deserve to be on the list. All shorthaired dogs will shed – get used to it. Otherwise, don’t have a shorthaired dog. Daily brushing is the best way to deal with shedding. Too many baths will confuse the dog’s skin and body chemistry into shedding more than ever.

If your Beagle sheds to the point of baldness, then better go see a vet. This is not normal. If they are also scratching, it could be sign of an allergy or some other canine medical problem. Beagles do loose some fur when they age, but not enough to go bald. In fact, for any Beagle behavior problem, you might not need to invest in dog training books. You should go to the vet to see if there is a medical condition making the dog act in a upsetting way.
Wandering and separation anxiety can be dealt partially with proper nutrition and exercise. Your new mantra is “A tired Beagle is a good Beagle”. Too rich a diet will make your Beagle bounce off of the walls. And Beagles worship food, so they will easily overeat. Proper exercise also makes your dog more prone to nap when you are gone instead of tear a room apart in separation anxiety.

The good news about Beagle problem behaviors is that many other breeds of dog also have them. You can pick up any dog training book and know that the techniques inside will apply to Beagles. Be sure an annual check up is part of your Beagle’s life, as this can help prevent medical conditions that may cause Beagle behavioral problems. For example, if your Beagle suddenly snarls when you pat him, perhaps he has arthritis and can’t help being grouchy. Your vet can be of great help with any and all Beagle behavior problems.

If you really love the dog, you will be able to solve any problem behaviors with proper Beagle training. This author hopes to one day author a line of breed specific dog training books.

Dogs are like humans. They like to have a good rest where they have a proper place to retreat when they are tired.

Dog beds are easily bought on the internet or any local pet store. But with so many beds available, which one are you supposed to pick? Usually, people do not take down the importance of how comfortable the bed should be. They end up choosing an expensive pet bed or a dog house that is costly but pretty. But the prettiness of the bed doesn’t mean it will be suitable for your dog. For example, warm fabric like cotton might to be the correct material to choose.

It is important that you know how to pick the correct bed for your dog in order to avoid any unnecessary discomfort.

When choosing a Unique dog beds , choose materials that fits the breed of your dog. If you have dogs with thick fur, avoid choosing fabrics that might be too warm to sleep in. For example, materials like cotton or velvet are not appropriate for dogs like Poodle and Siberian Husky. This is because it might be too hot for your dog to sleep in during summer time.

You may realize that after a time being, dog beds tend to get dirty. Make sure you choose a washable dog bed, whereby you can take the covers out to wash it frequently .

Another important thing to look for is the size of the bed. Measure the dog crate or kennel and ensure the bed fits well into them before buying one. Your dog needs to live comfortably where they have ample of room to move around with the bed fitted inside the crate.

There are many brands available both on the Internet and your local pet store. So before getting , do a research on the dog bed you want to purchase. Normally, reviews can be found on the particular dog bed you are interested in. And if you are still unsure which dog bed is suitable for your dog, go to a local pet store and seek advise from them.

home or may be|Do you have a dog at home or[/spin] are you thinking of buying a new dog? One of the most hurdles in keeping a adorable puppy is to train him properly. puppy to spoil your place or bite the friends who come to your home. Hence you have to make sure that you train your puppy properly.
When you plan to train your dog, you should know that it is a good idea to start at the earliest. Ideally start puppy training when your puppy is around 5 to six weeks old. Even though it is never too late to teach a puppy, starting sooner will surely make things lot easier. So what is the best way to train a dog? There are number of ways and methods with which one can train their dog. However most of the successful dog trainer will agree that reinforcing positive behavior is the best method to choose.

Avoid Punishments, Give Reward
Let me explain this further. Similar to human child, puppies also respond better to rewards and treat than punishments. Whenever your puppy obey your instructions correctly, give him small rewards. At home you can speak to kids in a language they can understand. Yet, our children disobey our orders. However when a puppy disobeys your instructions it is mostly because the puppy didn’t get what exactly you need. That means, you need to find better ways of training.
It is often found that people hit the dogs nose with magazines or newspaper whenever the dog makes a mistake. This is completely wrong. In fact this could counter productive. Your dog might have accidentally made a mistake and if you punish him for something which is not his mistake, then the dog will not be motivated to accept your instructions. Another common mistake found in the dog owners is that, they shout at the dog. This will confuse your pet. Are you shouting because you are happy or are you yelling because you are angry? Be firm in your tone, but do not yell at him. Most of us who dealt with kids knows how to be firm in their commands yet friendly. This holds true for puppy potty training as well.

Barking Dogs..
Some times you will find that your dog is unnecessarily barking. Before you run to your favorite pet shop to buy a barking collar, please remember that a dog can bark due to many reasons. Your dog may bark if he is hungry, thirsty or excessively hot or cold. Dogs are like us and they need food and water. During extreme climate conditions to stay indoor. Dog Massage – Pet Massages a True Indulgence (Part 1)

Besides giving your dog love and attention, another great gift that you can give is a soothing pet massage. A pet massage, just as the name suggests, is a type of physical therapy that is similar to acupressure or chiropractic care.

This type of pet bodywork gives your dog an instant gratification of comfort, relaxation, and the feeling of being loved. When given to your dog on a regular basis, a pet massage helps minimize his sensitivity to touch, either by you or a stranger. This makes him easier to groom, handle, and also makes it faster and easier for the vet to examine and treat him.

The growing popularity of pet massage makes it widely available all over the country, especially if you live in a major city. However, you can learn the basic technique of this type of bodywork and give it to your dog, making the experience more enjoyable for the both of you.

Treating your dog to a relaxing pet massage is an excellent way to bond with him. Not only will he love the way it feels, but he will appreciate the time and attention that you are giving him, a true treat that will make your dog’s heart melt with joy.

Giving your dog a massage is not as hard as one would think; in general form you start from the top of his head and work your way down to the paws and tail.

1). For starters, you need to call your dog to you and command him to sit down in front of you.

2. Ease your way into the massage. Start by giving him a light caress the way you would normally do. This way, he won’t think that you are about to do something different that might probably scare him away.

3. Give him an overall petting, from head to toe. Apply firm but gentle long strokes. The stroking prepares his muscles for more intense work and makes your dog feel more relaxed. Do this for about two more minutes.

4). Start by moving to his head and placing your fingers under the muzzle and thumbs on top of the head. Let your fingers massage the lower jaw and muzzle area while your thumbs massage his forehead, ears and sides.

5. Next, massage his ears, one ear at a time. Your dog’s ears contain a lot of nerve endings and massaging them will feel very good to him. Do this for at least one minute per ear.

6). Now is for the forehead specifically which you will massage for about 30 seconds before making your way to his cheeks for an additional 30 seconds followed by the muzzle for 30 seconds more.

First Aid – How To Take Care Of Your Puppy If He Has A Bleeding Wound

When it comes to young puppies, one thing that is most often common place is that the puppy will end up getting themselves into a situation where then somehow end up hurt. Puppies look at everything as a way to have fun, much like a child who always seems to have more fun with the box a toy came in rather than the toy itself.

A puppy may find themselves chewing on an electrical which can result in burns or electrocution as well as the puppy could fall over on an item and as a result they get a cut. Dealing with cuts and scrapes are just as important on a puppy as they are on a child.

Today we are going to discuss how you can quickly help stop the bleeding should your puppy suffer from a cut. There are three general forms of bleeding as a result of an injury. Below are each of these types of bleeds along with a quick tip on treating the cut so that the bleeding can come to an end.

1) To start with you have a normal cut or scrape which can result from everyday puppy play. These types of bleeds usually go unnoticed by the puppy and are similar to that of a small scratch you would suffer from. It is important to remember that while these types of cuts are nothing to worry about, if you do not make sure to clean the area with hydrogen peroxide twice a day until it heals, your puppy could get an infection and that is something to worry about.

2) A continuous flow of blood is a type that should cause alarm. These injuries are caused by the damage to small capillaries just under the skin which results in a steady stream of blood. These types of bleeds are similar to that of a nose bleed or a shaving cut. They are hard to stop, but they do stop once enough continuous pressure is applied to it. Keep the injury elevated above the dog’s heart and seek medical attention if you cannot stop the bleeding within 15 to 20 minutes.

3. The third type of bleeding your puppy may suffer, and the most alarming, is if the blood is spurting out consistently. This type of bleeding is extremely serious and if you do not get help immediately, your puppy may go into shock and possibly die. The best thing that you can do here in this unfortunate scenario is to place bandages on the injured area, while elevating the limb, and apply steady pressure. Most importantly, get in your car and drive to the closest animal hospital that you can find.
