Dogs have a natural immunity system also which they get from their mothers in milk, but it is not enough for them. As soon as they get older they loose their immunity so they need to be vaccinated.

TYPES OF VACCINATIONS:

* DISTEMPER: it is the first vaccination which is given to your puppy and it helps fighting against respiratory distress and seizures. Its symptoms are a discharge from eyes, nose, lethargy and fever. You need to secure your pup from that.

* KENNEL COUGH: it is the next vaccination which your dog needs. It leads to loud dry cough. It affects the bronchi and trachea of dogs. It is not a fatal dieses but it is really contagious. It is also known as BORDETELLA.

* LEPTOSPIRASIS: this is given with other vaccines. It is not a very common or large disease but still harmful and is found among big and large dogs. It affects liver and kidney.

* PARVOVIRUS: This is a very common disease which is found in all most all dogs. It very dangerous too. It can cause serious vomiting, dehydration, diarrhea. This affects the white blood cells in dogs and can harm their immune system.

* LYME: it mostly happens during warm climate and in warm regions. Mostly dogs are vaccinated by Lyme disease. It can cause severe arthritis and lethargy. It can recur, once your pet has been affected by this. It is not a fatal disease and can be cured by antibiotics.

There have been many debates on the topic that whether dogs should be vaccinated or not? The only answer to this question is consulting a vet. Diabetes

There are essentially three ways that might help prevent canine diabetes. This disease is one that you want your dog to avoid so that the dog lives as long and healthy as possible. And although it’s rare, there are many dogs whose diabetes go into remission just by having their diet, supplementation, and exercise all in good order.

1. Lower the carbohydrates. The majority of dog foods sold in pet shops contain ingredients that are as high as 98% carbohydrates. By minimizing the amount of carbs in your dog’s daily meals, this moderate carbohydrate level can go a long way towards diabetes prevention.

The diet is very critical for dogs that are genetically at risk for diabetes. It is very important that you study up on your dog breed and make sure that he is getting the right nutrients so that the gene which can store diabetes will not be triggered off.

Golden retrievers are amongst the most popular pets that dog owners have in the USA. Unfortunately, many of these retrievers get diabetes because their owners did not do enough research for their breed type in order to get their diet correct from puppy hood.

2. Go out and find a good vetnear you. Ask the vet about natural supplementation for the immune system. a lot of dog owners miss this very critical dog diabetes prevention step. taking with organic products such as antioxidants and herbs for the immune system can make a huge impact on preventing diabetes, particully for the dog breeds which are genetically at risk for this disease.

Flea medications and tick insecticides can also trigger diabetes because of thetoxic state produced in the body. By keeping your dog clean of these chemicals and toxinsyou are helping his immune system stay healthy.

3. Physical exercise! It is sadening to see so many dogs out there who develop canine diabetes that should never have in the first place had they been active and not become overweight. This of course is the direct responsibility of you, the dog owner. If your dog is inactive and gains weight, he can develop diabetes even if he is not a breed that is genetically at risk.

20min fast walking two to three times per day is all your dog needs for optimum health and to keep him in good shape. If you can go jogging with your dog then that is even better. Having your dog swim is also a great option for exercise.

If you are one of the many people who suffer from allergies you know how uncomfortable it can be.

Imagine how hard it must be for your dog to suffer with allergies. She cannot complain and she cannot ask for help. So as responsible dog owners it is up to us to figure out when she is having an allergy outbreak and to provide her with medicine as soon as possible.

Similar to humans, dog allergies are usually passed through genetics from parents to puppies.

There are various things that can cause a dog to have an allergic reaction. The more common dog allergies include dog food allergies, protein allergies, allergies to pollen, and dog skin allergies. Thankfully with the proper treatment they can all be treated. For dog food allergies you can try and change her food until you find one that is fine for her to eat. For other types of allergies you should be able to find the appropriate treatment.

If you believe your dog has allergies then schedule a vet appointment. You vet can examine her and then recommend the best course of treatment.

The easiest way to identify dog allergies is to know your dog. Know what “normal” looks like for her. So, you may be able to better tell when something looks out of the ordinary. This can be helpful not only in identifying potential allergies, but it can help to identify the start of other illnesses as well.

Several symptoms can indicate that your dog may be allergic to something. You may notice that she is always scratching, or she may be gnawing at her skin. There is no sure set of symptoms that you can use to identify your dog’s allergies since there is no telling how a dog will exactly react to something.

So anything that seems out of the ordinary is cause for further investigation. Try to find out what is causing the change in your dog’s behavior.

Dog allergies should be identified and treated as soon as you can. This can help you poor little dog to avoid additional pain and discomfort and bring her some relief to her allergy suffering.

If you got your dog from a breeder then it is quite likely that they can tell you if her parents had dog allergies too. That may make it a bit easier to pinpoint what she may be allergic to.

There are a wide variety of travel accommodation options available for those traveling with their pets, as well as a number of search engines you can use to find pet friendly lodging where ever you might be traveling. Some hotel chains tend to be dog friendly. However, since not all hotels or motels in a chain are necessarily owned by the same people, not all locations will be dog friendly. There are a variety of pet friendly hotels that you can look into if you are going to be traveling with your dog.

The pet friendly accommodations include the Motel 6 chain, with most of the motels in this chain allowing pets. The pets need to be attended at all time, and only one well behaved pet is allowed per room. Dogs must be kept on leashes throughout your stay, and must be declared when you check in. You also need to be considerate and clean up after your pets.

One of the largest chains of dog friendly motels is Best Western. They have over 1,800 locations that allow pets, including over 1,000 in the US and Canada. You need to book ahead of time and double check the pet policy, as these may vary from hotel to hotel in the chain. For example, in San Francisco the pet must be under 50 pounds and attended at all times or kennelled, and the guests must stay in a basic room on the first floor. However, in the San Diego Mission Bay location dogs must be under 25 pounds. There is $20 non refundable deposit per night, the dogs can’t be left alone, and they must be walked with a leash.

Other dog friendly hotel chains include:

  • Mainstay Suites
  • Clarion Inn & Suites
  • Rodeway Inn
  • Studio 6
  • Kimpton
  • Fairfield Inn by Marriott
  • Sleep Inn

Whichever hotel or motel chain you want to stay at, be sure to check out the pet policy of the particular location you are considering. Not all hotels or motels in a chain have the same policy, and policies are continually changing, so it is hard for the dog friendly databases to keep up with them. You may also want to think about dog insurance. One excellent and regularly updated resource is the PetTravel.com database.

Are you planning on a vacation? Are you also planning to take your favorite pet with you? If so, you should know that most motels and hotels have a no pet admission policy, and therefore will not allow you to lodge there. However, you don’t need to worry as there many pet friendly hotels located throughout the world which are more than willing to solve your problem.

If you are thinking about buying a small dog as a pet, remember that for the most part, they aren’t much different to a larger version. Having said that, there are certain points they need to be made aware of when looking after a small dog. Illustrated below are some points you will need to consider for the daily requirements for a tiny breed of dog.

Choosing a Dog

Feeding:

Naturally you’re going to feed your dog daily, but the standard-size kibble at the grocery store may be too large for your dog to eat comfortably. Make sure that your dog gets a kibble which suits his tiny mouth and you could get these along with the premium brand of dog foods. Although if you feed you dog with canned food this should not present a problem.

Dog Food Tips

Methods of containing them:

Every dog needs the following: regular exercise, an outdoor place for his potty needs, and an enclosed area which provides the animal with security. You need to be careful here as the large fencing used to protect a larger dog may just be too big for a small dog, since there are convenient gaps below and in between making it easy for the smaller dog to kneel down and escape through it. It may seem bizarre but it has been know for very large birds to actually take tiny dogs from their gardens. A simple answer to this problem is to construct an enclosed play area which should stop this from happening.

Dog Care

How to train the dog:

While tiny dogs aren’t any harder to train than large dogs, the consensus of many pet experts is that many of them end up spoiled. Be it a pocket or purse-fitting dog, remember that the small dog still belong to that species of animals which follow pack behavior, and incidentally the dog and not the owner leads the pack. It’s a wise idea to make sure your pet is thoroughly house trained, no matter how small and inconsequential the mess might seem when he misses. Dog experts also suggest you make your dog work for you, to keep him responsive to your rules. Never reward a dog with goodies or a meal till he has perfected your command for doing tricks or even simple jobs like sitting or fetching.

Grooming:

Keep in mind that grooming a small dog is slightly different to larger ones and cater for this. Firstly, as they do not get the same type of outdoor exercise that a larger dog does whereby their nails are trimmed automatically, tiny dogs require their nails trimmed on a more regular basTiny canines do not get the same sort of regular outdoor exercise on rough surfaces that controls their nail growth like a larger dog so they will need to be trimmed more often. As they are eating more canned food, their teeth will need to be brushed more regularly (at least twice per week) to eliminate unwanted and harmful deposits. The above makes it clear that it does not matter whether you are taking care of a small dog or a large dog the methods are pretty much the same. These may seem like inconsequential points but they can and will make a big difference to your pets health and happiness.

Houseplants add beauty and charm to your home. They also are a producer of oxygen and very good for the environment, however some of them are not very good for your dog! Actually some of them can kill your dog! Lots of dog breeds are primarily indoor dog and because of an owner’s home or preference some dogs are kept indoors for most of their days and nights. Some common indoor or patio house plants are : caladium, alocasia, elephant ears, philodendrons, and skunk cabbage. They are very beautiful but if your dog even nibbles on a tiny leaf, the enzyme in all of them called calcium oxalate can cause a quick and agonizing death for your beloved canine companion! Calcium Oxalate looks like a small crystals that become embedded in their tongues and mouths emenses swelling of the back of the tongue, thus preventing the dog from breathing, and ending in death by suffocation. You will want to view these nice dog strollers and cheap dog clothes that will be great for you and your doggy.

Just like with Poinsettias, Mistletoe is a beautiful yuletide tradition and involves a kiss; but if your dog gets a hold of it this can result in the kiss of death! In the spring and summer months, a popular flower that many brides and bridesmaids carry are Jasmine flowers. They are beautiful and fragrant and look delicate against a beautiful gown or dress. However, if a dog gets ahold of these beautiful and exotic blooms they can cause a toxicity in the dog’s body and results in death. These are attractive because of their smell and sometimes a dog may see them discarded or in the trash as with Mistletoe when it’s used, and out of curiosity will sniff and taste the plant not knowing it is a threat! Puppies eat everything and anything they come in contact with, so finding one of these plants in the trash or discarded in or around their area spells out death for them! Also while were on the subject of dogs be sure to check out these nice pet carriers on wheels that are great for traveling.

Be a responsible pet owner! A dog’s life is more important that any houseplant! There are many houseplant choices that are pet-friendly and are just as fragrant and beautiful to look at! If you have to have these plants, you are risking your dog’s very life, but you can do the responsible thing and keep them out of your dog’s area and keep all leaves, blooms, petals, etc., cleaned up. However even with the best precautions you can still chance an accident so the clear advice is to choose dog-friendly plants and avoid ones that are dangerous to your beloved pet! If you suspect your pet has been poisoned, bring both the toxic plant and your dog immediately to your vet or nearest animal hospital! Every minute counts! By bringing the plant, finding an antidote will be easier for your vet and will take less time in saving your dog’s life! Keep in mind, however, that your veterinarian cannot be expected to know as much as a botanist would, but proper diagnosis and the correct treatment of specific plant poisoning is at the vet’s fingertips through the national Poison Control Center if additional help is needed.

Dogs are pack animals first and foremost. When someone decides they want to keep a dog in their house what they often don’t realize is that dogs are first and foremost pack animals simply through instinct. What this means is that the dog will assess who is in the house, typically seeing them all as being in one pack. Secondly the dog will then work out the social hierarchy of the pack, likely positioning himself as high up as possible.

As the owner it is vital that you don’t see yourself as the dogs best friend, but rather as the pack leader under which all your commands must be obeyed. Too many owners fall into this trap, often spoiling the dog for poor dog behavior, often without even realizing. Bad behavior basically consists of any effort by the dog to ignore or counteract your commands. Poor dog behavior is precisely what you don’t want because it is often employed by the dog to assert his dominance over you the owner. If the dog is a puppy then you will have an easier time molding the dogs behavior.

Dogs are instinctively more relaxed when they know their position within a pack, a pack that is functioning well on the social and physical level. Stability is the key here.
