I wanted to buy some of the best small dog costumes for my puppy because I was to throw a party for my daughter’s birthday this month end. While I was going through some good dresses for my daughter on the internet I even took a chance to have a look for some good dresses for my puppy also. There I found that the Hand Smocked Dress was looking very beautiful as it was completely hand-smocked with perfection. The dresses were in dazzling light pink color and in soft lavender color. I liked the pink colored dress because somehow I felt that my puppy liked the pink color the most. Wearing this Smocked Dress my puppy would certainly look very fashionable . And why I liked this dress very much because it was so carefully designed and the butterflies which were embroidered were looking very attractive. The butterflies which were embroidered were also hand- beaded with the help of crystal bars. The lace was also matching along with the dress and the sleeves were also beautifully laced. This dress was also fitting into my budget as it was hardly priced for $ 74.99 which means it was not at all expensive.

My daughter and I were very excited and we were eagerly waiting for the birthday to arrive so that we could enjoy every moment of the party and we were also sure that all our guests would definitely compliment us for my daughter’s dress as well as my puppy’s dress. Finally when all the guests arrived, my daughter came out of her room carrying our sweet cute little puppy in her arms and all our guests were much surprised because my daughter and my puppy were really looking very beautiful in their dresses.

Fears Over Poisoned Dog Food

Categories: Training | January 21st, 2009 | by Kenny | no comments

Due to the amount of pet food recalls and the increasing numbers of cases of animals dying by cruelty, Dog Owner%s are understandably worried about the risks of their own pets coming across poisoned dog food. Vets advise on a few significant signs that a dog’s food may have been poisoned. Amongst these signs to watch out for are vomiting, bloody stools, loss of appetite and energy and excessive thirst. Unfortunately, these signs may not grow apparent until a number of days after the dog have consumed poisoned dog food.

If a dog owner is suspicious of food that their dog has eaten, even partially eaten, it can be advisable for them to keep any leftovers and bring them to a vet for examination. If the dog food is in fact poisoned, it can be worth noting if the police become involved in the situation as this information could lead to the perpetrators becoming prosecuted. It is evidence after all. If a dog shows any signs of being ill or poisoned, especially after eating food that has been recalled, given by a stranger or found on a walk, it is far better to consult a vet immediately than leaving it until it is too late to treat your Sick Dog.

Crimes Involving Poisoned Dog Food

Amongst those dogs poisoned by contaminated dog food that has been recalled by manufacturers, there are also random acts of cruelty where dogs are purposely poisoned. This can occur for various reasons and by those who are sane yet excessively cruel. It is unfortunately, not that unusual for pet owners to find that after rows with neighbors or acquaintances, their dog eats food that has been mysteriously poisoned. This is growing in instances and it is the animals that bear the brunt for this type of thoughtlessness and cruelty. There are also those who do not have enough knowledge in the care of animals and who mistakenly feed their dogs food which is effectually poisoned, being full of toxins that are extremely unhealthy for dogs and creates dog health problems.

Dogs can also inadvertently consume food that has been poisoned and intended for other species like pests and rodents. Worse still are the cases of people who intentionally harm their own animals because they cannot afford to pay for their food, because the animal is not a working dog or if the animal has had puppies. These cases are criminal and many who are found guilty of feeding dogs a portion of poisoned food are forbidden from owning animals thereafter for a number of years. This is a growing practice but there are still many animals suffering from negligence and cruelty.

Can Dog’s Co-Exist With Prey Animals Peacefully?

Categories: Behavior Issues | January 16th, 2009 | by Kenny | no comments

Most people regard dogs as primarily hunting animals who as part of a pack like nothing better than occasionally chasing after suitable animals (e.g. cats, rabbits, mice, gerbils etc) for fun and food.

What many present and prospective dog owners may not realize is that how a dog acts is largely down to how the owner has brought the animal up. Great handling and training should never be skimped on. If you always wanted to get a cat but thought that having a dog means it was impossible then think again.

Acclimatising dogs to cats and vice versa is relatively straight forward - basically introduce both to each other when they are very young, the younger the better. This lets each animal regard the other as a normal and friendly feature of the environment. To the dog the cat will seem like just another member of the pack. To the cat the dog will seem like simply another larger cat.
Introductions can be made with adult cats being introduced to puppies, but not the other way round for risk of endangering the cat.

If introductions occur between cats and dogs in later, more adult, stages of their lives pre-conceived ideas/ memories of what the other is can prove disastrous. Where you are able to mold their personalities to a certain extent is where the power in co-existence lies.

Recommended Pointers On Ways To Train Your Dog

Categories: Training | January 15th, 2009 | by Kenny | no comments

The proper care of your beloved canine involves more time and effort than merely providing appropriate food, medication for health, and other needed supplies.

Dogs are sociable, lovable and excitable and it’s why we love them. However, these sweet traits can also be the root of major behavioral issues like chewing furniture, biting, not coming when called, barking or running away.

So, it’s important to start training your dog from a very early age. As an instinctive pack animal and follower, your dog will become subdued and more comfortable in a variety of social situations.

To learn some of the best tips on how to train your dog, keep reading for suggestions from some of the top trainers in the country.

Use Positive Reinforcement

Starting a dog training program is not as simple as it sounds. You need to begin with positive reinforcement. That means instead of yelling at or scolding your dog when he does something wrong, you reward him when he does something right. It’s a good idea to mix up treat awards with praise and petting, unless you want an overweight, but well-behaved pet.

The dog will learn that good behavior is rewarded. Just like humans, dogs respond best to praise and encouragement. Your dog will learn faster and equate good behavior with a tasty treat.

Avoid Bad Habits

One of the most common mistakes among dog owners is to yell at their pets when they’re barking incessantly. Why doesn’t this work, and why does it make the problem even worse?

It worsens the problem because your dog’s barking at something, whether it’s a squirrel in the yard or a car driving past. When you start yelling at your dog, it thinks that you’re “barking” too, therefore reinforcing the behavior that barking is okay.

Remember, your dog can’t understand your words. He can learn a few commands and understand your tone. To solve an incessant barking problem, try using a spray bottle of water.

Additional Tips to Stop the Barking

When your dog begins barking uncontrollably, say the command “quiet” softly and give him a small spray of water. Eventually, your dog will learn that “quiet” means he should stop barking or he’ll get sprayed with water.

Another method involves ignoring your dog completely when he’s barking. Sometimes dogs bark because they’re bored or want attention, so it’s best to ignore this behavior.

Once the dog stops, reward him with a treat. Because your dog may be barking out of boredom, sometimes a simple distraction, like turning on the radio or throwing a toy, will work.

Normally though, dog training is most effective when you use rewards and positive reinforcements, not scolding or yelling. Remember, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Feed Your Dog Organic Dog Food

Categories: Training | January 8th, 2009 | by Kenny | no comments

Choosing your dog’s food is an important decision. It’s the difference between a healthy, happy canine and an itchy, flatulent, miserable one. There’s a huge distinction between living on preservatives & dog food fillers and feeding your dog the best food available for their complete dietary needs.

Due to current pet food recalls, several of pet owners are left feeling alarmed and bewildered as to why this incident happened. Several dogs and cats were left sick and worse yet—several more died. Since the many of pet owners depend solely on commercial pet food to feed their pets, they are now cynical about which brand of food to buy and what type of food that they can eat without getting sick.

Who Can The Pet Owners Depend On?

Commercial pet foods have been tainted with harmful chemicals, including mycotoxins (toxins produced by fungi). According to the FDA and food manufacturers have authorized several recalls after a tainted food is found. In addition the FDA and the food company join together to find out the main cause of the problem and prevent it from happening again.

When Protecting Your Pet - Knowledge Is Power

When it comes to getting the healthiest dog food possible, all you really need to know what to look for and what to avoid. The following are a few ways to monitor the food you are giving your dog to ensure its safety:

• Make sure that you check the expiration date on all foods and treats before giving them to your dog. This will help you avoid any items that are scheduled to go bad.

• If the pet food or treat is not have an expired but appears to be stale or has a foul odor, do not feed it to your dog and contact the company/manufacturer.

• Always consult with your vet if your pet shows any symptoms of abnormal or unusual behavior. Early treatment will result in a greater chance of full recovery. It’s safe to say that some of the dogs and cats that die from tainted pet food may have survived had the owners’ brought them to the vet the first signs of sickness.

Lack of Nutrition can affect your dog’s health which can include their coat, teeth, ears, nails, breath, energy and brain. Unfortunately it can also affect how long they live and the quality of life they live. All too many times I have seen dogs that have eaten not so healthy food.Get complete information on home made dog food here Dog Food.

Choosing Healthy Foods For Your Dog

Categories: Tips | January 8th, 2009 | by Kenny | no comments

In a time when more and more pet owners are concerned about what they’re feeding their pets, finding a nutritious dog food can be pretty complicated. Lots of products on the market claim to offer complete and balanced nutrition for your pet, but in many cases, this is just a marketing term used to sell the product. Unfortunately, such labeling doesn’t mean that every food is equally good for your dog, rather that the percentages of protein, fiber, fat, and moisture meet the minimum standards. While any food your feed your dog should have this kind of labeling, that’s not all there is when it comes to nutritious dog food. When you decide what the best food is, you have to start with the label.Click here to know about dog health and haelthy dog food Best Dog Foods.

First, rule out the least expensive brands in the store. It’s not that you have to break the bank to buy a good dog food, but that cheap foods use cheap ingredients. The lowest cost dog foods on the market will use a lot of fillers and low quality ingredients, making them a lower value, even though they don’t cost a lot per bag. A nutritious dog food will be more expensive than a grocery store brand in most cases.

Secondly, pet owners need to learn to read pet food labels. Avoid foods that have a lot of corn, soy, or wheat, especially if they’re high on the ingredients list. These are very cheap sources of plant protein, which are hard to digest for dogs. They’ve been linked to a number of health problems, like colitis and urinary tract infections. Of course, dry dog food always contains some quantity of grain. However, choose a nutritious dog food that includes grain further down the list and uses ingredients like brown rice, barley, oats, or other easy to digest choices. Some foods also include potatoes.

The bulk of any nutritious dog food should come from animal sources, since dogs are naturally meat eaters. Avoid cheap filler ingredients like meals and by products, which can come from already stripped animal carcasses. Also, if you see a generic term such as ‘poultry’, ‘fish’, or ‘meat’, avoid that food in favor of one that names the type of meat used. Whole, named meats are the most desirable, and should come first on the list of most nutritious dog foods.

When feeding your pet with the limited timed feeding method, you should determine how much food you wish to feed your pet for the entire day. Then, divide this by the number of times you will feed your pet throughout the day. Once your dog is an adult, you may be able to feed it only once per day. For the most part, however, it is best to feed your pet once in the morning and once again in the evening.
