What to keep in mind with a puppy

Categories: Behavior Issues | April 28th, 2009 | by Kenny | no comments

Buying a puppy is a big change. Investing in a puppy is almost like deciding to have a child. They require education, food, love, potty-training and much more. One thing a future dog master should consider is sending their pup to dog obedience training . This could spare keep you from numerous incidents involving chewed up couch cushions, cleaning up accidents on the living room carpet, and most of all stress. Dogs should not to stress you out, they should make you happy. Also, keep in mind expenses such as grooming, boarding or dog sitting and other care your pet will need. Similar to expecting parents preparing when having a baby, dog owners need to be ready for their first puppy.

One tendency your puppy will have is to use, and perhaps destroy your furniture. There are a few ways to alleviate this issue. However, if youfail to take care of this in the puppy’s early years it will become a normal action for them. You may end up replacing pillows for the next fifteen years. A great way to keep the dog off is a shock mat. These mats are portable and are battery powered. It will send an electrical impulse into anything that comes in contact with it. You simply turn it off when you want to sit on the piece and turn it on when you leave. These mats will save you money and help you and your dog have a better relationship.

Another tendency your new puppy will have is to get into your trash bins! This is an issue most adult dogs won’t seem to grow out of. One thing you can do, especially if you followed the last piece of advice, is place one of the shock mats in the way of your garbage bin. This will train your dog not to go near the garbage, and over time you won’t need the mat anymore. Another quick solution is to put child locks on your garbage bins. This may be a hassle, but you have to make small sacrifices for your dog.

In addition, your dog may make it his thing to jump on people. This really makes having company over hard, because they get berated by your dog. To fix this, it takes persistence. First, when your dog does it, grab their front paws and step on their back paw. It doesn’t hurt, so don’t worry, its simply negative reinforcement. It teaches them that when they jump, something uncomfortable comes with it. By doing this every time and reprimanding, your dog will kick this habit fast.

Dogs are demanding pets, and you have to make sacrifices for them. However, the sacrifices are well during their younger years is important. You have to teach the dog the difference between what is right and what is wrong, in the same way you would teach a child. If you can’t do this, your dog will develop a skewed view of reality and bad habits.

Dog clothing is not Simply about Style

Categories: Training | April 25th, 2009 | by Kenny | no comments

When we are talking about the entire pet ensemble, we are not just talking about Dog Collars alone. We are more concerned about dog clothes which are fashionable yet functional. As most of us dismiss as just pure fancy of dog owners, these garments are carefully made for a specific function or purpose.

The dog clothes are tailored with a degree of high craftsmanship and are mostly designed to toy and small dogs such as terrier, dachshund, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, etc. Dog Clothing is thought to be a fashion statement of you and your pet as you go about your daily routine.

Why do you have to consider buying dog clothing? When it comes to sudden dips in temperature and changes in the weather, you should be very careful with your short-furred dogs. This kind of puppy doesn’t have the ability to keep their temperature constant. The dog fur can get damp as it can absorb the moisture that comes from the ground up during cold weather.

After this, the insulating capability of the furred body is impaired leading to a drastic drop in the body temperatureof your dog. This explains why some dogs easily catch a chill especially in cold weather. This is the prime reason why it is essential that we use dog clothing to guard the dogs from the ruthless effect of the nippy winter.

Your little friends are considered members of the family. They also enjoy cozy beds in the home with controlled climate. Their bodies do not have environmental cues to respond to seasonal shifts. For this reason, dog clothes are essential. Working dogs|Police dogs and search and rescue dogs} must wear coats and appropriate dog booties to protect them from the harsh elements.

In general, short haired dogs need protection from temperatures drops as they are more vulnerable than a breed with long and thick coats. Dog clothing that functions as sweatshirts are fleece-lined coats and booties are the essential winter outfits for protection from frost bites, ice and the bitter cold temperatures. There are also dog wraps that cover the neck and the rump and legs which also serve as protection of the internal organs of your dog.

When you walk your pooch in the early morning hours, especially if it is windy it is wise to use a hooded jacket. On the other hand, active dogs in tight and thick clothing can get overheated. It is important for the owners to observe for any signs of panting or any behavior that would indicate that the dog is overheated.

Be very careful that you do not allow the dog on the walk to ingest any antifreeze since this is highly toxic. A trace amount of the anti-freeze can already be harmful to your dog.

You may want to consider a pair of cute pajamas for your dog in the evening. You should provide your little friend with warm bed with a blanket to keep him comfortable even during those coldest nights. You may give your dog an extra late snack with a high caloric diet that dogs need to generate extra body heat especially during winter.

Place you’re Dogs in Good Hands

Categories: Training | April 17th, 2009 | by Kenny | no comments

Many people go out on vacation or travel to places that are far away from home. Many people also have dogs. Many people also travel and can’t keep their pets out and about in the house for a very long time. Boarding your pets is quite acceptable, because at a boarding house, they are usually kept and cared for better than they would be by themselves. At places like Dog boarding Snohomish and Dog boarding Bellevue, it is almost impossible to hear that your dogs didn’t enjoy their time while in boarding. Dog boarding is not a bad thing; it just means that you need your dogs to be safe, cared for, and entertained during your very own entertaining vacation.

While you are away, your dogs need to be cared for correctly. This doesn’t mean that they can stay home, eat an entire bag of dog food, and chew up furniture because they are bored. It is much more logical to put your pets in boarding if you do not want your house to be a complete disaster when you get back from the trip. Even the most behaved dogs can leave messes for you. It is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your pets in your home.

Sometimes it is very helpful to have a good friend or family member who wouldn’t mind pet-sitting for you, while you are away. Sometimes pet boarding can be expensive, especially if you have more than one pet. Asking a friend or a family member is very easy and cost effective for you. One downside to leaving your pets with a sitter though is that they may not get the same love and attention that they would normally get from their owners or the people who do it as their job. This is just one of the many variables to consider when deciding what the pets will do while you’re away.

One other variable to consider is how flexible the boarding center is. If you are flying back from Rome at 2:00 AM in the morning and need to pick up your pets first thing in the morning, the boarding center needs to be open for you to be able to do so. If the boarding center does not have flexible hours, this may not be the best boarder for you. You also want to make sure that the boarding center in not too far from your home, so that you are not driving miles and miles out of your way; that is just a waste of gas and time.

When it comes to boarding your pets, you usually want the best for them, right? Well, it is high time to look at the possibilities and try carefully to choose the best place for you and our pet. Your pets are important and boarding centers know that, which is why most of them will try their absolute hardest to do their job right and make you a longtime customer. It is important that while you are on vacation, that your pets have the attention, love, and care that they would have any other normal day.
