Which PetSafe Fence Should I Get?
04 Jun 2009
PetSafe produces a wide range of fences to suit the many different types of dog’s and your requirements. This can be a little confusing, so in this article we will summarize which PetSafe fence is the best for any given situation. We will look at the area you want to cover, speed and ease of use and your dog’s temperament.
To get up and running quickly, without having to lay down wiring, you can get a wireless fence. Click on wireless fence to find out more about it.
You can get an indoor and outdoor PetSafe fence, and you can get an outdoor fence which is either wireless or uses a wire. Your first option must be the simplest, and that is to choose whether you want an indoor PetSafe fence or an outdoor. If you want an indoor fence then you go for a wireless fence, if you want an outdoor then there are a number of items to take into consideration.
There are 3 underground outdoor dog fences to choose from, and they include the deluxe PetSafe fence, the stubborn pet fence and the standard fence. They all have their specific applications and strengths. Now we can look at their strengths and weakness.
Independently Minded Dog
As the name suggests this PetSafe fence is for stubborn dogs, or it is for dogs which are hard to train. With this fence, your dog has to weigh over 20lbs and be over 6 months old. You will find it difficult to find a more potent invisible fence in the stores. The standard basic of the shelf box allows you to stake out an area a 1/3 of an acre. You can invest in more wire to cover an area up to ten acres.
PetSafe Fence - Deluxe
When looking at a PetSafe fence you should start here as it will cater for most dogs and most back yards. Of the three underground fences, the deluxe fence can set up the largest containment area covering some 26 acres. The dog has to weigh over 8lbs and again be over 6 months old.
PetSafe Standard Fence
The standard fence is the cheapest fence and uses the smallest receiver collar you can get and so is designed for smaller dogs and cats! The reason it can be used on larger felines and small pet dogs is because of the weight of the receiver collar which is only 1.2 oz. However, please note that the furry friend should weigh five pounds and over. The standard PetSafe fence cannot contain a large area like the deluxe model. It has the same coverage as the stubborn dog, which is up to ten acres.
Wireless Fence
The PetSafe wireless fence covers an area in diameter up to 180 feet. To make the containment area larger than 180 feet, you can buy additional transmitters. The wireless fence is the quickest and easiest to install but is more expensive if you want to cover large areas.
