What Are The Ideal Toys for Puppies
27 Jul 2009
You can’t have a puppy without puppy toys anymore than you would have a little kid without toys. But you wouldn’t give an infant toys with tiny removable parts, bead eyes or long strings because those could pose major safety hazards for your baby. Puppies are largely baby dogs, so you need to use the same good judgment when you buy the best toys for your puppy as when you buy toys for your baby.
Do buy toys that your puppy will enjoy, though. They need the toys to chew on and to give them something stimulating to do. If they don’t have toys, they’ll think that your show and furniture will be enough . Be certain the toys do not have any sharp edges. Puppies are still learning how to be coordinated and are still learning a sense of balance. Don’t allow toys that could injure them, and remove things that might doubtless bring them harm.
You wish to ensure that the toys aren’t too little. Similar to a baby, a puppy will bite and chew on anything. Something too small, or something that could potentially be damaged or chewed into small pieces, could be swallowed or lodged in your puppy’s throat.
A pet store is the ideal place to find toys for puppies. All of their toys are specifically designed to be safe and fun for puppies. You can find toys designed to be good for them to munch when they’re teething, and toys in bright colors to stimulate puppies and interest them. Rolling and moving toys are ideal. After about a quarter, a puppy will enjoy chewing. Its instinct is to chew, and it helps them cut teeth, just like children. So anything that they can chew without destroying makes a perfect toy.
It’s not important to spend a lot. Toys found in the kids’s department could also apply to puppies. As long as its made of material that’s’s soft enough to munch but not soft enough to break, or it rolls or moves, or it has no tiny parts, you are ready to go. Make sure that parts are not sufficiently little to swallow, which could lead to choking.
One of the best toys for puppies (and they make them for several animals, as well) are Kong rubber toys. The hard rubber is perfect for gnawing, and they come in fun shapes. The centers are hollow so you can fill them with dog treats to give your puppy special inducement for chewing.
Keep a watch on the condition of their squeaky toys, and if there are indications of too much wear, junk them. The “squeaker” is a small piece that might be potentially dangerous if it comes out.
