Canines, like humans, enjoy having a space they can call their own. This is possible for them with kennels and crates for dogs. It is more usual to use kennels when your dog is outdoors and crates when your dog is inside the house. If your pet is going to stay outdoors for extended stretches of time, and above all if you don’t have a fenced in yard, you will need a dog kennel to keep your pet safe and comfortable. The dimensions of the kennel will depend on how large your pet is, and don’t forget to take into consideration (if your dog isn’t already fully grown) how large your pet will end up. A good number people opt for either a wire mesh kennel or a galvanized steel kennel for outdoor usage. You have options for the ground covering ranging from the original dirt in your backyard to gravel to a concrete slab. Remember that if your pet enjoys digging, they might be able to dig underneath the kennel and get away if you stick with dirt or sand. It is also nice to place some kind of a roof over the kennel. A replaceable tarpaulin that you can batten down is an excellent selection or you may choose to go with a shingle roof. It depends on how much cash you are ready to spend.
Kennels and dog crates are available in many sizes and shapes but a good instance of a kennel is the Jewett-Cameron Champion dog kennel costing about $200. It is easy to build and it is designed for safety, convenience and long life. It is made of galvanized steel that gives you rust protection and it will also protect your pet from stray dogs and wild animals. A tarpaulin could easily be located over the top of the kennel. Its dimensions are 4 feet high by 5 feet long x 5 feet wide. If you require something larger Jewett-Cameron offers a kennel that is 5 feet wide x 10 feet long x 6 feet high and it costs about $400. It has the same excellent features as the other kennel but it offers your pet added space to relax.
Dog crates also come in steel but, in addition, you’ll find them in plastic, wood and canvas. These work better inside your property and will give your pet a place that they know belongs to them where they can feel safe. They are also good for transporting your canine to vet appointments and for other travel requirements. Lots of the wood crates are made to look like an item of furniture and they can be manufactured to match your furniture and even used as an end table. They start at about $200. The wire crates start at approximately $60, as do the canvas crates. On the less expensive side, there are cheap dog crates constructed of plastic that will set you back approximately $40 but, of course, price will depend not just on the size of your canine but also on the features that are important to you.
Kennels and dog crates can be a real advantage to both you and your furry friend. For outdoors, they will have a spot where they are at ease and you can feel confident leaving them in the knowledge that they are in a contained area and happy. For inside the house, both your four-legged friend will be content in the knowledge that they have a place to call their own where they can go and feel secure and comfortable.
