I am going to tell you about the mastiff dog breed and what I feed Charlie . As you can imagine Charlie is my mastiff. He is an English Mastiff. There are quite a few breeds out there which have their own characteristicsbut I stopped at Charlie. He is of the dark fawn-brindle ( dark browns all mixed together ) persuasion and of average size and weight(32 inches tall and nearing 190 lbs).

Food For Mastiffs

First of all , let me tell you all that I have heard success stories will all different types of diets for mastiffs from Iams to Purina but this is what I feed mine and it has done Charlie wonders. I got this recipe from a friend of the family that had an English Mastiff for as long as I have known him and his have always seemed full of energy an blissful . Well full of energy for a mastiff that is.

I started feeding Charlie puppy kibble and it seemed to be doing just fine but once he became a teen he started looking like he needed a little more. I tried just feeding him more kibble at the beginning but he still seemed skinny and a little sleepy. That’s when I started feeding him what he eats now and it has worked.

English Mastiffs

I main ingredients are ground turkey, brown rice and raw veggies. Mainly carrots broccoli and cauliflower. I cook a half pound of ground turkey till tis done and add about half a cup of cooked brown rice. I chop up about a cups worth of vegetables until they are small enough to where I wouldn’t need to cut them if I ate them. I mix them all together and serve it to him after it cools. I also place his bowl on a stool so he doesn’t have to bend over to eat. He usually eats everything to the last drop except for some rice .

I do this twice a day once for breakfast and once for dinner. I have made a couple meals and saved them in the fridge and that seems to work just fine too. One thing i have never done is made tons and frozen it and fed it to him over a week or two but I can only assume that would work too and maybe even be cheaper seeing as how you could buy it in bulk.

Mastiff Breeds

The turn around was fast . You could see Charlie changing and within a month or so he had a shinier coat and more energy. He even started putting on some lean muscle weight. Charlie is now a very blissful English Mastiff he has energy I have a friend that has an American Bandogge Mastiff and he loves this diet too so I can only imagine that every type of the mastiff dog breed would too. I love this breed and i love my good ole dog so I hope you try this diet for a while and see of it makes your dog as blissful and healthy as mine.

How To Control Your Dog’s Barking Habit

If your dog is not trained to bark only at the appropriate times, you and your dog may become a nuisance to the whole neighborhood. 3. The timing is indispensable here, watching his body language, you can tell when he’s ready to bark.

4. Once he becomes cognizant of the guard command, give the quiet command when he’s barking; give the reward as soon as he quits barking. If the barking carries on, give the no command. When he’s successfully learned the command, move farther away and carry on the training, he needs to know and react to these commands from any distance.

5. After this training is successful, untie him from the fence and continue to train him the commands guard and quiet. You and your neighbors will appreciate this training when they have a peaceful night, and they will learn that if he is barking, there is something wrong.

If your dog continues to bark excessively, then it is possible that one of the following is taking place:

1. Dogs typically bark when prompted by something or someone or some kind of stimulus that can get them excited or become overly protective with their territory.

Some of these stimuli are: the sound of other dogs barking, the rumbling sound of thunder or machineries, ringing phones, people shouting, and many other noises that may trigger your dog to barks.

If this is the case, one of the fastest and easiest ways to stop your dog from barking is to simply remove the stimulus.

2. Your dog may continue barking when he is restricted to a specific spot. If this is the case, your dog may be undergoing separation anxiety feeling.

If this is the case, you can provide him with a few toys to keep him busy while confine to that particular place or what you can do is to take him for an exercise or walk by the park. This will help him overcome the separation anxiety.

3. If your dog is aggressive, then it might just be possible that he or she may bark at the minimum indication of irritation such as an unfamiliar person walking pass your property.

In this case an enhancement of the environment may be needed. You can rebuke him. It is good to bring him out more to familiarize with the environment.

4. Other ways which may help your dogs from excessive barking include intervention such as spraying your dog with water or using high frequency sounds that interrupt barking. These devices can be quite helpful and can be controlled by you or automatically when the dog barks.

5. I personally do not really agree with de-barking your dog and the use of shock collar. I believe that with good training drills, you will be able to solve the barking problems.
