Why We Put Clothes On Our Dogs

The trend of dressing up small dogs is going strong. Many small dogs are never seen unless they are decked out in some type of dog clothing or flashy rhinestone charm on their collar. Of course there is always the functionality theory of clothing dogs. However, most pet owners who partake in this extravagant hobby do it for pure fun. Avid pet people love to see the trendy styles that change each season or cannot wait to get the hottest new trendy shoes. When a child comes into the world, we make sure they are well taking care of. We make it a point to be sure that our children are trendy and have their needs met. This does not make us heros because they have to have clothes and shoes. Pet owners participate in this do clothing trend even though it is not a necessity.

There are so many different reasons that people dress up their tiny pooches in small dog clothes. As stated earlier, there is no disputing that there are functional reasons for clothing our dogs in extreme weather conditions or if they are a hairless breed that needs protection. This is not the top reason that we dress our pooches. There are four main reasons that people dress up their dogs in tiny dog clothes. Some people may dispute these reasons but they are not at all negative.

Reason one: The most obvious reason is because they are just so darn cute! There is no arguing that a tiny pup in a cute little dress or a sweater is irresistible.

Reason two: A dressed up dog can be an attention getter. This is not meant in a negative way. Dressing our dog up when we take them out for a walk in the park can make for great start up conversation. People love being complimented. We also love for our child to be told they are cute. Why not our beloved pooch?

Reason three: Some pet owners use their dogs as an accessory to their own outfit. Dogs make quite nice accessories because we can change their carrier, clothes, shoes and hair bows.

Reason four: Expression! A story can be told about us by what we wear and how we present ourselves. This translates over into doggie world too. We can express our own personality or the personality of our pooch through the dog clothes that we select for our pets.

People enjoy dressing up their pets and there is no question that this trend will continue. The only things that will change is the fashion itself.
