Tips For Buying Pet Lovebirds

David | Tricks | Tuesday, 16 March 2010

Some quality in regards to the phrase “exotic bird” brings to mind thoughts of tropical paradises, concealed in flourishing rain forests, with sweet birdsong saturating the air. As a result a large number of Americans take these distinctive birds into their home.

Possibly this is the reason that according to a modern survey, there are 15 million birds existing in US homes. Dissimilar other domesticated animals, birds obtain bright colors, peaceful voices, and life expectancy close to that of a human. For someone in search of an astonishing life long companion, a bird is a natural choice.

Nonetheless, not every bird is exotic. lovebirds for sale typically comprise Parrots, Cockatoo’s, Conures, Macaws, Caiques, Macaws, Red Bellied, Indian Ringneck, and Ecletus Parrots, Lorikeets, Parrotlets, Scarlet Crested Grass Keets, Rosellas, and Toucan’s. A number of these birds originated from tropical areas, and are extremely hard to seek in wild settings. A number of these animals were initially brought into households in the 1600’s throughout the Spanish expeditions.

Because of their scarceness, exotic birds may vary in cost from $10 to over $20,000. Gang-gang Cockatoos and Hyacinth Macaw obtain some of the most costly breeds for their rare sub-species. The subspecies is commonly designated by having incredibly unique coloring unlike that of the rest of the breed, or by the difficulty of breeding the bird in captivity.

Yet, with no record to the high cost, many people prefer an exotic breed because several of these birds can mimic human speech and are incredibly intelligent. There is no introduction parallel to a bird that addresses a visitor by name! The birds are known to warn homeowners of uninvited guests, or generally present someone a cause to laugh. Normally, these breeds are also especially placid, and have a lifespan of fifty-five to eighty years. As a result, it is not unusual for an exotic bird to be discussed in a will!

The most vital task when selecting amid the many different bird for sale is to discover a dependable breeder. As exotic birds are few, with inappropriate breeding techniques they are susceptible to genetic diseases. For breeders who have created an internet existence, birdbreeders.com is an outstanding means for finding analysis on the breeders presented. Once the breeder choices are narrowed down, it is suggested to meet the breeder and view the conditions the bird is breed in. The fashion a breeder relates with the birds is a good signal of their temperament and attention to detail. In addition, a forewarning signal would be if the birds are in filthy, insanitary, or overly crowded conditions. This denotes a elevated prospect of disreputable breeding procedures. A final consideration is to ask the breeder if the bird was hand raised. This is generally measured as favorable by veterinarians’, especially for exotic birds. A hand raised bird will be more familiar with humans; more cultivated, and will adapt more easily to new surroundings.

Seeking adoption of an exotic bird can be an exciting and wondrous vision! By picking the finest bird and breeder, a person can discover an affectionate, fascinating friend for the decades ahead.

Helping A Dog Recover From Its Owner’s Death

David | Tricks | Monday, 15 March 2010

Being a huge movie buff, one of my all-time favorite teen flicks being “Clueless” starring Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, who later went on to “Friends” and other movies, and Brittarny Murphy. Last December, I was definitely stunned by the news about Brittany Murphy’s sudden death. Animal Chiropractic

My heart went out to her mother and her husband, Simon Monjack, as they laid her to rest, following her funeral, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California. The 32-year old actress’ death was caused by a heart attack at their shared home with her husband in LA on December 20, 2009, as listed by the news reports.

As I clicked through her husband’s web site I saw breathtaking photos that Simon had taken of Brittany. It is such a shame for someone that beautiful and talented to be taken too soon.

While the loss is tragic for her family and fans, what truly broke my heart was when I learned of Brittany’s female Maltese named Clara. Being an animal lover, I cried when I read online from people magazine’s web site that the dog was experiencing a change in behavior since Brittany’s death, according to Brittany’s husband.

Clara was a Christmas gift from the husband to his wife the previous year. Describing Clara as “a humongous personality in a tiny package,” Brittany named her after the silent film star Clara Bow. More than a pet, she is a family member.

This tragic turn of events made me wonder how pets react to their owner’s death though I had never really given much thought. Do pets mourn? If so, how do survivors handle the pet’s physical and emotional health during the mourning period?

Dr. Ava Frick is a pet behavior specialist, which is also my pet’s veterinarian. Actually, she has been using Alpha-Stim technology treatments on one of my dogs for excessive barking and showing aggression toward my other two dogs.

At our next appointment, Dr.Frick and I discussed Clara and pets’ ability to mourn. She said that it is common for a dog to go through a mourning period after the loss of a human or animal companion. The symptoms are actually exhibited for days or even weeks plus decreased appetite, lethargy, and changes in the dog’s behavior.

She said that it is important to keep a dog in its normal routine in such cases. Exercise can do wonders to alleviate stress for pets like humans who are going through issues. Also, acquaintance with familiar people and meeting new friendly faces can boost the pet’s mood.

It is a wise move to seek for professional advice if the pet’s mourning period seems to carry on. Physiologic abnormalities, which might be contributing to the dog’s depression can be determined by a veterinarian.

Alpha Stim – is often recommended for those dogs that are depressed, which is very interesting to note. Dog Pain Relief

Somthing You Didn’t Know About Dog Health Care

David | Tricks | Sunday, 14 March 2010

Numerous dog keepers who believe they know all about dog health care are usually taken aback by the wealth of health treatment available for dogs. It is a horrible shame that a great many dogs are put down once they become unwell even though their ailment may very well be curable.

One illustration showing a quite easy dog health care practice is dog blood donation, that is increasingly popular in the UK. Sadly not enough vets are completely conscious of the simplicity of the practice and consequently tend not to promote it adequately to dog owners.

Another instance is using pace makers in canines. It is incredible when you consider that a dog’s life could be extended by the exact kind of surgical procedure that enables a great number of humans to survive longer when being affected by illnesses which slow their heartbeats and it is evidence of the hard work that goes into dog health care analysis behind the scenes.

The usage of pacemakers in our canine friends is comparatively unusual, as a result of the tremendous expense, with the treatment being created in the US. An interesting fact is that no supplier produces pace makers for canines, consequently human products are utilized. Consequently to keep costs low around a tenth of pacemakers used in canines in America are reused from humans who have passed away.

Fitting a pace maker to a dog which, aside from the cardiovascular problem, is in good health can easily allow them to survive between three and six years longer. You learn something new about dog health care each day!

Reducing Your Dog’s Barking With A Bark Dog Collar

David | Tricks | Saturday, 13 March 2010

Excessive dog barking can cause a hassle and annoyance for more than just you. Neighbors of people who have such dogs will eventually start to resent the dog or the dog owner, specially if the barking takes place very late at night. As a dog owner it is your responsibility to ensure your dog is at least trained well enough that they will not be barking incessantly at all times of the day and night.

While a dog will always bark, there are a few options out there that can eliminate excessive barking. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, or don’t have the time for every day training, then a bark dog collar is probably your best choice.

Your Options

For those of you who are seriously considering getting a bark dog collar for their furry friends, it’s important to consider the different kinds of collars in the market. The most well known one is the shock collar, which is a bit controversial. This collar uses an electric shock that actually shocks your dog when they bark. These shocks are very mild, and to the dog’s skin, they aren’t painful at all, yet many animal lovers find them cruel and excessive.

If you think that electrical shocks are unthinkable for dog correction, you can try other options, like the citronella collar, for example. The citronella anti bark collar works in exactly the same way as the shocking collar, but uses a spray of citronella smell on the dog’s muzzle instead of a shock. This spray is totally harmless, and stops barking by making the dog stop and wonder what it’s happening.

The smell is very intense, and by nature, dogs will try to find out what’s going on. With enough time, dogs will link the barking with the citronella spray, and will learn to limit their barking whenever they are wearing the collar, Keep in mind that the anti bark dog collar will be programmed so that you can turn them off when you are going to bed at night if you want the dog to be able to alert you of burglars.

Their instinct is to bark when they hear something and once they give out that first bark if they hear something around the house, they will see that no spray came out of the anti bark dog collar and will feel comfortable to continue barking to alert you.

These collars are really something great and work effectively on almost all dogs they are used on

David | Tricks | Friday, 12 March 2010

Understanding pug dog health risk can actually save the life of your best friend, and if you are a dog lover you probably know that all dogs have certain health problems that need to be looked out for, especially when a dog gets into its older years, therefore if you know the specific risks for the type of dog you own you will know what to look for and how to got about taking care of the problem if it should come up.

One dilemma which a lot of canines will encounter is hip dysplasia, especially a problem for bigger pets, but pugs can also be prone to have this problem. Hip Dysplasia occurs when there is some malformation of the hip joint and the femur bone does not fit correctly, which can cause the dog a lot of pain and in severe cases the dog may need surgery or have to be put down. Cases that are less serious are less of a problem to treat and typically need a good nutritional basis and normal exercise.

If the pug’s nostrils are narrow or constrained, he has a problem called “stenotic nares,” which can strain his body and lead to an enlarged heart. Breathing from the mouth and a foamy type discharge may be indications of this problem and can be fixed with surgery.

A problem in which the pet’s eyelids will roll in making the lashes to rub irritably against the pet’s eyes is termed entropion, and is an important health concern because it can facilitate other issues such as ulcerations, scratches and irriation of the pet’s eyes which only makes a bad situation worse. The condition can be corrected by surgery, which is the most common form of treatment, but noticing the problem and taking care of it can be very critical to your pug’s health and well being.

Dry Eyes is another condition that can fairly commonly occur in pugs. Dry Eyes is a deficiency in producing enough tears to keep their eyes nice and lubricated. There are a few things that can cause the tear ducts not to produce enough tears, blockage of the duct, failure of the tear ducts or lack of nerve stimulation to the tear ducts, and treatment is dependent upon how severe the condition is.

One of the typical problems a lot of canines encounter is demodectic skin mites and they come in two types. With the first form, localized demodectic mange, appearing as small hairless patches of skin, is seen in dogs under one year of age. The next type is typically characterized by demodectic mange manifested by large areas of healthy looking skin without hair and dogs of any age can have this.

There are many more health conditions that you should look out for if you own or intend to own a pug, so if you suspect that your dog has any of the problems listed above or problems that may not be listed make an appointment with your vet and have your dog evaluated.

Compare Pet Care Insurance for Your Dog or Cat

David | Tricks | Friday, 12 March 2010

Although the number of pet owners in the States is on the rise, most of those owners will not obtain Pet Medical Insurance; strange when you consider how attached people become to their animals and treating them like family members. We all know just how important it is to have health insurance; providing the same for our pets only seems fair.

Considered by many as an unnecessary expense; however, pet owners soon realize that vets bills are costly and it doesn’t take much treatment for them to enter into four figure bills. In the last ten years there have been many areas that have seen price increases and vets are amongst them; the result of this has meant that pet insurance premiums have also risen as well.

So other than rising costs, what are the main reasons you should consider cover for your pets. Anyone who owns a domestic animal needs to be prepared for health problems occasionally; this can happen at any time and usually when you can least afford it!

There may come a time when you have to consider the cost of medical treatment; you know that treating your animal will place financial strain on you.

I remember a few years ago when the vet told me that it would cost at least 1,000 dollars to save my dog; I have to admit to asking myself at the time if we could justify the expense. To make matters worse, there is always a chance you pet still won’t survive; if they do not survive despite the vets best attempts, the bill for treatment still has to be paid.

The financial aspect of looking after a pet is something that must be considered carefully; this is even more relevant if you are experiencing financial difficulties. If you are experiencing money worries then raising additional finances can prove embarrassing.

If you love your pets then they deserve the best medical treatment; arranging a pet insurance policy saves this type of predicament from happening in the future. Although Cat Insurance costs are rising they are not going to break the bank; these can be arranged for as little as twenty dollars or so per month although better policies will cost twice that.

Nearly all pet healthcare policies can be tailor-made to suit individual circumstances; perhaps to incorporate more than one pet on the same plan. If you are a pet owner then perhaps this article has given you something to think about; you may already be giving this subject some serious consideration.

Using Diatomaceous Earth Filters in your Fish Aquarium

David | Tricks | Friday, 12 March 2010

Anyone who has kept a fish tank knows how dirty the water gets. After all, even though fish are tiny, they are also rather untidy critters, and the water needs constant maintenance. Even if you make it a practice to change the water and rinse out the aquarium on a once-a-week basis, you’re still going to need some aid with the huge task of maintaining a healthy environment for your fish. One of the things that will help you is a good filter. Filters can be biological or chemical, but one of the handiest filters you can buy is one that uses diatomaceous earth as it’s filtering medium.

As the name suggests, diatomaceous earth comes from the soil. Diatoms are small organisms that die and leave fossilized remains in the soil. By so doing, they fill the soil with minute cavities which can be employed effectively in filtering debris out of water, including the water in fish tanks. These are the same sorts of filters which are utilized in swimming pools and municipal applications, and they are wonderful for capturing even the smallest particles in your water. In fact, they corral particles that are too little to be caught in most other types of water filters.

Vortex Diatom Filters are high-speed mechanical filters which are engineered to fine filter water in aquariums without annoying the natural, and desirable, level of bacteria. Although many of us have been conditioned to think of bacteria as being a bad thing, there are many various categories of good bacteria that we rely on every day, so it is important that we not rid any ecosystem of the good bacteria that it needs for plants and animals to survive. A filter which damages the balance could prove hazardous for your fish.

A System one Pressure Filter from Aquarium Products will polish tank water at the rate of 300 gallons an hour. It may be employed both in saltwater and freshwater aquariums successfully. By filling the filter jar with diatomaceous earth, which can be bought separately, it will run for about 3 hours at a time. It must be turned off after 3 hours, because running it longer will cause the motor to burn up. However, in that 3 hours, you will have filtered and polished the highest quality of water on the market today.

Although it may appear a little weird to use soil to clean your tank, diatomaceous aquarium filters are so popular that they are on back order at most online shops. With persistence you will be able to find the filter you need to keep your aquarium clean and your fish healthy.

Why Bark Collars Can Really Work For You

David | Tricks | Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Bark collars tend to be put on the back burner as an option when it comes to training a dog not to bark unless for particular reasons, and that is simply because many people don’t understand how they were designed to be used. In lots of cases bark collars are not used properly in the first place which is yet another deterrent for some once they learn about their friends’ problems with the collars.

In order to be successful at using bark collars it is important to understand how a bark collar should properly work and the best way to employ the collar for your dog. Don’t forget that there are also plenty of options to choose from when it comes to different brands and models of available bark collars.

Different Types of Bark Collars

Bark collars are classified in one of three kinds depending on the method they use to correct dogs when they bark. Consumers can choose from citronella versions, which are used to spray a small amount of citronella toward a dog once they have been barking for a prolonged (usually specified by the owner or preset into a particular model) period of time.

Electronic based bark collars are the most known version of these kinds of collars and they also carry the brunt of reasoning why some people are afraid to use them. These collars follow the same distraction method of citronella spray collars, but they use small, mild shocks for calling the attention of the dog instead of citronella smell.

Finally, some consumers may choose to use an ultrasonic version of the bark collar. Like the spray and shock collars, the ultrasound collar distracts the attention of the dog from whatever it’s barking at and focuses it to something else, in this case a high pitched sound. The pitch of the sound is so high that it can’t be detected by humans, leading some dog owners to believe that the collar is malfunctioning; however, dogs have no problem hearing the sound at all.

The Benefits of Bark Collars

Unlike oral training, bark collars don’t need a trainer to be with the dog all the time to reinforce the idea that excessive barking is not allowed. In fact this has been found to be so successful that after just a few short months of using bark collars, many owners find that the dogs learn acceptable behavior and don’t need the use of the bark collar as much any longer.

Buying Specialist Greyhound Food

David | Tricks | Tuesday, 09 March 2010

Greyhounds have a very specific physical make-up so you need to be aware that they should be fed a diet different to other dogs. Many experts now recognise that a poor quality dog food packed with preservatives and additives can have a negative effect on your dogs behaviour.Greyhounds can be particularly affected by chemicals contained within their food, but this can go undetected by their owners.

A specialist Greyhound Food should be the only type of food you give to your required or rescued greyhound.Unless your greyhound is overweight, it does no harm to feed them as much as they want to eat at first.

Fish oils are good for the brain, skin, hair and joints and will produce a nice glossy coat and help to maintain bones in later years. To increase your greyhound’s oil levels you can always add a teaspoon of cod liver oil to one of their feeds. Or perhaps as a treat you could feed them an oily fish such as sardines or tuna (just check for bones first).Just remember that if you are feeding a dry pet food to any animal it should be served with a bowl of fresh water.

A dog’s digestive system can cope with raw meat easily, it is what they would eat if they had to catch their own dinner.Do not feed your dog poultry or pork.As dogs are not carnivores (they are actually omnivores) you need to ensure that you feed a good mix of carbs, proteins and fats.

The easiest way of providing a balanced and nutritious diet in every bowl of food you serve is by feeding a specialist greyhound food product.
